Lucille II (my notebook computer) is getting a fabulous new makeover with a more recent version of Ubuntu Linux (her operating system). While Lucille is in relaxing in the spa, however, my posts and commenting may be a little sporadic. This is because Lucille's wireless card is not natively supported by Ubuntu, which means that the dad (me) has to recompile "ndiswrapper" and invent a bunch of new swearwords in the process of trying to get the sucker up. My pal Mosilager tells me that "Feisty Fawn" -- the newest Ubuntu release, I'm installing "Edgy Eft" -- does a better job of supporting wireless cards. Great, except that "Feisty Fawn" is still in beta test, and Hulles don't do beta testing no more. Sigh.
So the bottom line is that I should have a new post up on Tuesday. Hopefully it won't suck. But the newly made over Lucille will be sparkling and shiny and ready to kick some palabras, just you wait and see.

feisty fawn comes out in 3 days! you should really check it out. it has a lot of neat improvements over edgy eft. :)
Great. Now I have to go through this all over again! But I will though. I didn't know it was coming out in 3 days or I would have waited to upgrade -- of course. Sigh.
Hi, Hulles!
Sucks to do the upgrades, but she'll run that much faster 'n smoother when you've got her all tricked out. Heh.
Any takers on the next name? grumbly goo? gobsmacked gluf? gorian geis? Anyone...? Bueller?
Hi, Angie. Yeah, she'll come out of the spa looking like a girl of 22 again...
Lollie, good work on perceiving the pattern.... I think the last word has to be an animal name of some sort. XO.
And I like that we have matching underwear!
Let's see...gnarly gnu?
I like these bloomers, but I am getting the urge to change my underwear.
Gutsy Gibbon actually is the next one. Feisty recognised and configured my intel pro wireless 2200 bg card for wpa without any trouble.
Feisty in general has been very stable for me, doesn't feel like a beta at all. I've had some trouble when beryl starts up with the system, so I start it later manually. Would like to switch to it completely, but a couple of programs that I need don't work on wine.
"ready to kick some palabras"
oh yeah!
i like the *sound* (you know, the one mixed in with the rest of the voices in my head) of you telling someone "bese mis palabras"
So the Hulles theme song right now is that one by Kenny Rogers, "You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille?"
Not only is dear Hulles brilliant, he is also a computer whiz! A man after my own heart!
Hulles,
Felicitations.
I will catch up with you and your recent scribblings shortly when time allows.
Hope all is well.
Regards,
M.
While Lucille II is at the spa my new computer has been brought home from the orphanage!!!
Lollie, I understand about the undies; but beware of change for change's sake. Whatever that means. Can't wait to see them.
Mosi, thanks for the encouragement on Feisty. And I can't believe that song never occurred to me. Normally I associated songs immediately. I must be slipping.
Vsnark, Lucille is back after a manicure, pedicure and bikini wax and is ready to put the other laptops to shame. Palabras will be kicked. And I like the phrase too.
Jax, thanks lots! But it's not your heart I'm after....
Merlin, welcome back. I tried to comment on the girls' blogs for both of us but it just wasn't the same.
And h, don't keep me in suspense. What did you name him/her?
I haven't been this excited about an upgrade since I got a Swatch guard (circa 1987)!

Her name is...Helen Phoebe, but she goes by Phoebe.
Hulles,
Your manly efforts are most appreciated : I'm sure you'd agree that it's better to have too many women to talk to than not enough.
M.
Incidentally would this be Unbuntu Dapper Drake Linux ?
M.
ck, I am embarrassed to admit I have no idea what a Swatch guard is. If it's like a Swiss Guard at the Vatican, it is apparently a misconception that Michaelangelo designed their uniforms. Just thought I'd pass that on.
h, congratulations on little Phoebe.
Merlin, I love talking to women in any number. And yes, I'm upgrading from Dapper Drake to Edgy Eft. And according to J, in a couple days I'll be upgrading to Feisty Fawn. And as much as I love all woodland creatures great and small, I'm getting a little tired of the cute Ubuntu names. Mutter mutter.
A Swatch guard is a flexible piece that goes over the face of a Swatch watch to protect it from scratches, etc. They were all the rage in the 80s.
Were they designed by Michaelangelo?
Somehow I highly doubt that...
Feisty's out. I hear they have a handy distro upgrade tool.
Thanks amigo. I'm going to give it a shot.
